Child home care benefit (GYOD)
2024. 06. 27.
The government provides significant support to parents caring for their disabled children at home.
Starting from January 1, 2019, a new benefit called child home care benefit was introduced for caregivers of children unable to care for themselves due to severe disabilities or chronic illnesses.
Parents caring for a child who is incapable of self-care due to severe disabilities or chronic illnesses may qualify for child home care benefit. The determination of incapacity for self-care is assessed by a specialist for children under 6 years old, and by an expert in other cases.
Since its introduction, the amount of child home care benefit has steadily increased and reached the level of the minimum wage by 2022. In 2024, the allowance is 266,800 HUF per month, with a 10% pension contribution deducted. A parent caring for two disabled children receives one and a half times the standard amount.
A parent receiving child home care benefit can engage in employment for up to 4 hours per day, except when working from home. Additionally, parents receiving child home care benefit may also qualify for infant care benefit, child care benefit and child care allowance for their other children. Child home care benefit can be received concurrently with child raising support without any restrictions.
